Add your nameThank the 67 bishops standing up to their partisan peers

After propping up Donald Trump for years, top Catholic bishops are stopping at nothing to undermine President Joe Biden -- even threatening to deny him Holy Communion. Thankfully, a group of 60+ bishops are boldly challenging their leaders' partisanship.

Cardinal Wilton Gregory has long been clear that as Archbishop of Washington, D.C., he will not politicize the Sacraments or deny the president Communion -- what the Catholic church calls the "source and summit of Christian life."

Now Cardinal Gregory has organized a letter from 67 bishops calling on the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops to cancel an upcoming vote intended to stop President Biden from receiving Communion.

Another true moral leader has been San Diego Bishop Robert McElroy, who wrote in America: The Jesuit Review that bishops must cease "weaponizing" the Eucharist and instead focus on stopping the "intrinsic evil of racism."

Cardinal Gregory, Bishop McElroy, and many of their brothers are following Pope Francis's pastoral example of working with President Biden despite political differences. These leaders understand what is truly at stake when bishops prioritize cheap political points over spiritual grace, and for that we should thank them.
