Tell Historic St. Paul Catholic ChurchThank you for showing that God loves everyone

Our Christian calling to love our neighbors is not always easy -- sometimes, it's even dangerous. Yet one Kentucky parish is reminding us not to be afraid, even in this difficult time. Because our God goes before us.

When Historic St. Paul Catholic Church in Lexington arranged to host a public conversation with transgender persons in the Catholic church, hate-filled internet trolls went on the attack. Threats of violence caused the parish to cancel the event out of safety concerns.

Yet the parishioners of St. Paul refused to let hate win. At their insistence, the event -- featuring Br. Christian Matson, an openly transgender man -- has been rescheduled with added security. As Father Richard Watson proclaimed in his homily about the event:

"I am being accused personally, and you as a parish, of being too close to people deemed base and sinful. What did Jesus do? He hung out with them, and He loved them. I can do nothing less. I can preach nothing less, and I think most of you parishioners are here because you will do nothing less than love everyone that comes to us."

Living out the love of Christ is how we create a more caring and just world -- which means we must not be afraid in the face of hatred.

Add your name to thank Historic St. Paul Catholic Church and make a bold, public witness that transgender people are seen, known, and loved in the eyes of God.
