Like its parent denomination -- the ELCA -- Pilgrim Lutheran in St. Paul, MN, is known for supporting women’s and LGBTQ ordination, reparations, abortion rights, and other Gospel-rooted social justice causes.
We call that Christ-like love. The religious right is calling it "a trainwreck of blasphemy and heresy" -- and all because it's the ELCA church where Governor Tim Walz worships.
The anti-ELCA and anti-Walz outrage is coming from all far-right corners: The Daily Caller (which was co-founded by Tucker Carlson), the James Dobson Family Institute, the journal First Things, and more are piling on.
We've seen this before -- Christian-nationalist leaders want voters to think that if you're Christian, you have to vote for extremist Republicans. News flash: Not all Christians are right-wing bigots who traffic in hate and bigotry. Tim Walz is proof of that. And so are Faithful America's grassroots members!
Let's speak out with one voice now to show Pilgrim Lutheran some critical support while it's in the national spotlight -- and to make sure that all Americans understand the religious right doesn't have a monopoly on Christianity.
