Christian-nationalist leaders have made it clear that they think giving women the right to vote was a mistake. And on Thursday, they came one important, dangerous step closer to their goal of disenfranchising women, trans folks, and many other voters for good.

The House of Representatives has just passed the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, or SAVE Act, a voter suppression bill that could particularly harm married women. If it passes the Senate, more than 69 million women could face significant new challenges that could keep them from voting.

Christian-nationalist leaders see the SAVE Act as an opportunity to exert the kind of control they already strive for in their own households over women everywhere -- whether they share their religious views or not. But this bill must get 60 votes to pass the Senate, which means that we have a very real chance to stop it.
