Tell Christian musicianStop Doug Mastriano from playing your songs at Christian nationalist rallies

Posted: Sept. 13, 2022

Hours after the January 6 attack, award-winning Christian musician Steven Curtis Chapman went on Facebook to call for peace and debut a new song. So why is MAGA Republican and Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano playing Chapman's hit song "The Great Adventure" at his rallies?

Mastriano is running one of the most blatantly Christian nationalist campaigns in the country. He describes supporting his campaign as an act of following God and plasters his campaign signs with Bible verses -- all while backing Trump, opposing equal rights, and lying about the 2020 election. And he's still refusing to answer questions from the January 6 committee about his involvement in the insurrection that day.

Chapman's words after January 6 were a blessing at a dark moment for many American Christians. But more than a year later, Mastriano is co-opting his message and his art for violent Christian nationalism -- and according to reporting from the Baptist publication Word & Way, Chapman hasn't said a word about it.

Let's ask Steven Curtis Chapman to show his commitment to peace by asking this insurrectionist to stop playing his songs -- and by condemning Christian nationalism's role in undermining democracy and provoking political violence.
