Tell CongressRemove Tony Perkins as U.S. Religious Freedom Chair

Posted: July 14, 2019

Religious liberty is one of our bedrock First Amendment freedoms -- but celebrating that freedom is mere hypocrisy if we don't extend it to every faith.

That's why Tony Perkins' new role as leader of U.S. efforts on religious freedom is so appalling. Perkins' organization, the Family Research Council, has been designated a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center since 2010. Yet Perkins is now the Chair of the official U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom.

When it comes to religious freedom, Perkins has a major conflict of interest. In 2015, he argued that Muslims do not deserve religious liberty because Islam is "incompatible with the Constitution." He has also said that pro-LGBT clergy should not have the religious liberty to conduct LGBT weddings.

Faithful America has beaten Perkins before, and we can do it again. Our grassroots advocacy convinced TV news producers to stop booking Perkins to represent Christianity. Now we must convince Congress to protect religious freedom from his hateful agenda.
