North Carolina's lieutenant governor is known for his Christian nationalism, having called America "a Christian nation" when he supported Donald Trump. But now he's taking his extremism and anti-LGBTQ hatred to a whole new level.
A newly released video shows Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson telling a church congregation that right-wing Christians need to take over public schools in order to protect children from being taught about LGBTQ equality -- something he called "filth."
In the same speech, Robinson also claimed that God intentionally inspired the creation of assault rifles because he "knew the world he was putting us into."
Calls are growing for Robinson's resignation, including from multiple North Carolina state senators, the Human Rights Campaign, and People for the American Way. Predictably, Robinson is doubling down and dismissing his critics as bullies.
Since Robinson is distorting our faith as a cover for his extremist views, we need to make sure grassroots Christians are part of those calls. Let's gather 10,000 signatures for Robinson's resignation to show those hurt by his words that we love them -- and that hatred and Christian nationalism don't speak for our faith.
