Tell Senate Judiciary DemocratsDon't let the religious right hijack the Supreme Court

Posted: Feb. 28, 2024

The Supreme Court is in crisis, due in part to deep-seated corruption as religious-right activists and billionaires lavish gifts, houses, and vacations on Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.

In November, the Senate Judiciary Committee authorized subpoenas for Leonard Leo and Harlan Crow, the two donors at the center of this ethics crisis.

The Catholic activist Leo is considered the architect of the religious right's takeover of the courts, and now leads a billion-dollar dark-money fund aimed at similarly reshaping American culture and government. Harlan Crow is a Texas billionaire and right-wing donor known for his collections of Nazi memorabilia and dictator statues.

Yet months later, Senate Democrats have yet to actually issue the subpoenas -- leaving our justice system in the lurch just as Thomas and Alito are poised to rule on some of the most consequential cases of our time, including whether Donald Trump can be held accountable for the violent, failed Christian-nationalist coup of January 6, 2021.

As Christians putting faith into action for social justice, we cannot sit by and allow our judicial system -- or our faith -- to be hijacked by religious-right donors. Add your name to show Senate Democrats that Christians want accountability and reform now.
