Tell Post Hill PressChristians shouldn't profit off Black tragedy

Jonathan Mattingly, one of the white Louisville police officers who shot and killed EMT Breonna Taylor last year, is now trying to profit off Breonna's death by releasing a new book with a Christian publisher.

Mattingly's father was a Baptist pastor, and the publisher, Post Hill Press, specializes in Christian titles -- but there's nothing Christ-like about cashing in on the death of an innocent Black woman in her own home.

The book is called, "The Fight for Truth." But if Mattingly's real goal was to share "the truth," he wouldn't be refusing all media interviews until the book's release this fall. As state Rep. Attica Scott said on Twitter, "People love to profit off of Black pain and tragedy. It sells."

Thankfully, Simon & Schuster, which distributes books for Post Hill Press, just announced that it will not distribute Mattingly's book. But Post Hill itself is doubling down on releasing the title anyway. Let's remind the publisher that Black lives matter to God, and show them that Christian readers demand they stop profiting from tragic Black death.
