Donald Trump has been charged with abuse of power for undermining the integrity of U.S. elections, a crime that should concern every Christian. Whenever democracy weakens, it is the poor and vulnerable who suffer most.
The authoritarian impulses that lead Trump to bully immigrants, Muslims, and the poor are the same impulses that led him to bully Ukraine. If he is permitted to get away with this corruption, it will only embolden the administration's pursuit of his hateful agenda.
Tragically, right-wing evangelicals are ignoring the Gospel's message of social justice and rushing to Trump's defense. Franklin Graham even blames impeachment on "a demonic power." We need a national movement of grassroots Christians to show our senators that the religious right does not speak for us on impeachment -- and that the president should be removed from office.
