President Trump is kicking off his reelection campaign with a dark warning that next week his administration will immediately deport "millions" of immigrants across the United States.
These ICE raids would tear families apart and terrify entire communities -- all under moral cover from the president's unholy alliance with the religious right.
Trump's favorite pastor, Robert Jeffress, says "Heaven itself is gonna have a wall." Franklin Graham claims the refugee ban is "not a Bible issue." Even Cardinal Raymond Burke teaches that it's patriotic for Catholics to oppose Muslim immigration.
Right now, most journalists act as if Trump and Graham speak for all Christians. That's why our voices are so badly needed -- reminding the media of the Bible's clear instructions to "love the immigrant as yourself" (Leviticus 19) while living out our own call to welcome the stranger (Matthew 25).
