Tell U.S. bishopsStop weaponizing Holy Communion

Posted: Sept. 21, 2021

In a pivotal moment for the U.S. Catholic Church, Pope Francis welcomed President Biden to Rome on October 29, called him a "good Catholic," and told him to keep receiving Communion.

The meeting underscores the pope's previous statements that he has never denied Communion to anyone and that he believes bishops should act like pastors, not politicians.

Pope Francis appears to be taking direct aim at top U.S. bishops, whose Committee on Doctrine is in the process of writing a new document on the Eucharist due out in November -- a document rooted in the desires of right-wing bishops who want to deny Communion to Joe Biden and other lawmakers.

These same bishops also launched an investigation of the president-elect before he was even inaugurated, prioritizing right-wing, single-issue partisanship over pastoral leadership.

Let's gather 25,000 signatures to let the bishops know that a movement of grassroots Catholics, fellow Christians, and allies have had enough of their partisanship. We're listening to the pope, and we expect them to as well.
