This year's Pride Month was a beautiful demonstration of the vast diversity and beauty of God's human creation -- full of joy, love, and celebration. But sadly, celebrating Pride has also become an act of holy resistance in a growing number of states where the religious right is advancing harmful attacks on LGBTQ rights.
The Human Rights Campaign even issued their first-ever national state of emergency in the first week of June, citing an "unprecedented and dangerous spike in anti-LGBTQ+ legislative assaults sweeping state houses this year."
To combat this cruelty, pro-LGBTQ senators have just re-introduced the Equality Act to the U.S. Senate. This legislation would finally provide consistent, nationwide anti-discrimination protections in employment, housing, education, and more -- making it harder for Christian nationalist extremists to enact hurtful state legislation that criminalizes queerness.
In the past, whenever the Equality Act made headway, it faced a chorus of objections from right-wing figures who claim to speak for all Christians yet clearly don't -- including Franklin Graham, the Southern Baptist Convention, and the Catholic bishops' conference. Yet we know that LGBTQ people are made in the image of God, and that all love is holy.
We can't let the religious right be the only Christian voices that Congress hears on LGBTQ issues. Tell your senators to pass the Equality Act today!
