When DirecTV and its parent company AT&T announced that they were dropping One America "News," it was a victory for all Americans concerned about the rampant spread of Christian nationalism and anti-democracy disinformation in our churches and communities.
But to executives at OAN, it felt like a threat -- and they've gone on the attack.
In January, OAN host Dan Ball asked viewers to dig up "dirt" on AT&T Chairman William Kennard, a Black man who served as FCC Chairman under President Clinton: "You bring me concrete evidence of whatever it may be: cheating on his taxes, cheating on his wife, saying racial slurs against white people ... Bring it, and we will air it."
Now, OAN has filed a major lawsuit against DirecTV, AT&T, and Kennard, claiming that the move to drop the network was "part and parcel of a larger, coordinated, extremely well-financed political scheme."
We can't let Trump’s favorite network bully DirecTV out of doing the right thing. Let's show AT&T and DirecTV that a nationwide movement of Christians and consumers supports their decision to take OAN's Christian nationalism and anti-democracy misinformation off the air.
