Tell Kentucky bishopNo more right-wing racism at Covington High School

Posted: Jan. 20, 2019

A disturbing new video shows a mob of Catholic high school students in "Make America Great Again" hats mocking and belittling a Native American man for peacefully drumming and chanting.

Many of the students also wore apparel from Covington Catholic High School, an all-boys diocesan high school in Park Hills, Kentucky which sent a delegation to the March for Life in Washington, D.C.

The school's leaders have apologized, but they must now take responsibility for having created an environment for such a disgusting display of hatred and racism: A photo from an admissions pamphlet shows that students wore these same "Make America Great Again" hats at last year's March for Life.

Alumni are calling on the local bishop to replace the school's principal and appoint a lay-led board to oversee reform. They should start with a suggestion from an organizer of the Indigenous People's March, where this harassment occurred: Require that students take a class in Native American history.
