President Trump just appointed Vice President Mike Pence as head of the White House Coronavirus Task Force -- despite Pence's dangerous record of ignoring public-health science in the name of religion:
- Pence once wrote, "Smoking doesn't kill." Actual experts at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) say, "Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death."
- Pence has falsely claimed that condoms are "very poor protection against sexually transmitted disease." The CDC says "condoms are the only form of contraception that can protect against STDs."
- During the worst HIV outbreak in Indiana’s history, then-Governor Pence's initial reaction was to ignore medical experts and simply "pray on it," dragging his feet for years and making the epidemic far worse.
The list goes on and on. Pence's rejection of public-health science is a gross distortion of Christianity that places our public health in grave danger. We need to show the administration that Christians want a qualified medical expert in charge of America's coronavirus response -- not a religious zealot.
