Tell the SenateWe cut child poverty in half. We can do it again.

Posted: April 8, 2024

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, in the midst of enormous suffering and fear, a quiet miracle happened. Congress expanded the Child Tax Credit as part of its comprehensive COVID relief package. As a result, child poverty was cut in half, the biggest drop ever recorded.

We rarely have an opportunity to make such an impact with just the stroke of a pen. Practically overnight, millions of children went to sleep with full bellies and stable housing, many for the first time.

And then, as quickly as it came, this miracle was taken away. Despite the overwhelming success of the expanded Child Tax Credit, Congress let it expire at the end of 2021 -- and unsurprisingly, poverty and hunger started skyrocketing.

Earlier this year, the House passed a bipartisan measure that would once again expand the Child Tax Credit through 2025 -- but the Senate has yet to vote on it.

Let's take a moment to listen to Jesus and support "the least of these" by asking the Senate to expand the Child Tax Credit now.
