Great news: Lutheran Pastor Megan Rohrer just made history as the first openly transgender bishop-elect in any major U.S. Christian denomination! The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA)'s Sierra Pacific Synod has just called them to serve in this position.
Bishop-elect Megan, who is originally from South Dakota and uses they/them pronouns, has been called "a damn fine pastor, a servant of the church, a lover of people, and a disciple of Jesus." They are an advocate for LGBTQ rights and the community chaplain coordinator for the San Francisco Police Department, where they have been recognized for their service to the city's homeless and hungry.
Bishop-elect Megan's election comes as especially welcome news at a time when many states are passing anti-trans laws that attack the God-given dignity of all people. This is worth taking the time to celebrate!
As we give thanks to God for Bishop-elect Megan's ministry, we also want to congratulate them with a special message from Faithful America. Can we add your name now to help reach 5,000 signatures of support?
