President Biden's time in office may be coming to a close, but he still has the power to save 40 lives in these final weeks.
Those 40 lives are the number of people who are currently on federal death row. Their sentences could be commuted with a simple stroke of Biden's pen. And just in the nick of time -- because if Donald Trump's past record serves as evidence, he will rush to execute as many people as possible.
As Christians, we follow Jesus, the Prince of Peace -- who was himself executed by the state and who taught us to value forgiveness over revenge.
Most Christian denominations strongly oppose the death penalty, including the Catholic Church. In 2018, it called for a ban on executions. During his weekly Sunday prayer just last weekend, Pope Francis asked that we "pray for the prisoners in the United States who are on death row... pray that their sentence would be commuted (or) changed."
With just weeks left in his administration, time is running out for President Biden to act. Will you join Faithful America and other faith-based organizations in calling on him to commute the sentences of those on federal death row?
