Tell EWTNRemove anti-LGBTQ activist as news anchor

Posted: Oct. 25, 2021

The Catholic cable-news network EWTN doesn't just share Fox News' right-wing agenda -- it also shares Fox's lack of journalistic integrity.

EWTN is known for airing softball interviews with Donald Trump, firing Black hosts who champion racial justice, seeking church commentary exclusively from Pope Francis's harshest critics, and more.

The channel's news director and lead anchor is Raymond Arroyo (who is also a frequent Fox guest host). He masquerades as a serious reporter, but he's actually a right-wing activist who hides his conflict of interest from viewers.

Arroyo sits on the board of the Catholic League, a wealthy conservative organization that revels in mean-spirited attacks on LGBTQ Americans, Democrats, and even Faithful America. Arroyo frequently features Catholic League president Bill Donohue on his program "World Over" -- yet neither man discloses their professional relationship on the air.

Once you know about Arroyo's conservative activism, the pro-Trump, anti-Francis coverage he oversees starts to make sense. Catholics and other Christians cannot allow EWTN to keep warping religion like this. It's time for network CEO Michael Warsaw -- a communications consultant for the same pope Arroyo constantly undermines -- to replace the activist anchor with an actual journalist.
