Tell Texas Attorney General Ken PaxtonDrop the cruel, baseless lawsuit against Annunciation House

Posted: March 4, 2024

For nearly 5o years, Annunciation House -- a network of shelters supported by the Catholic Church -- has served migrants traveling through El Paso. But now, they are facing unfounded, cruel, and partisan legal attacks from Texas's far-right Attorney General, Ken Paxton.

Annunciation House provides food, clothing, shelter, and assistance in filling out immigration paperwork. Despite this exemplary track record (or perhaps because of it), Paxton is threatening to shut Annunciation House down. With absolutely no evidence, he has even accused the network of smuggling people across the Texas-Mexico border.

Texas faith leaders like Catholic El Paso Bishop Mark J. Seitz are standing in solidarity with Annunciation House. That's because the network is simply practicing the Catholic Corporal Works of Mercy: feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, and sheltering the homeless.

Yet for these legal, moral, and Biblical acts, they are accused by their Attorney General of being human traffickers and drug dealers. This is not only a cruel, political, and unjustified attack on migrants seeking a better life -- it is an attack on the religious freedom of pro-immigrant Catholics and their ecumenical allies.

Let's show Paxton that a nationwide movement of Christians supports the holy mission of the Annunciation House, and that we oppose his hateful, partisan attack on its loving work.
