Shortly after Donald Trump unilaterally launched his criminal war on Iran, he held a press conference where he loudly proclaimed "we love you, God."
By most accounts, Trump isn't a particularly religious man. But he knew how to appeal to his favorite audience when it comes to international affairs -- the religious-right leaders clamoring for more war and violence in the Middle East.
If he was seeking praise from his allies, they certainly obliged. Televangelist John Hagee -- who has been begging for a war with Iran for years -- thanked Trump immediately, while his son and co-pastor Matt praised Trump's "heavenly air assault." Texas megachurch pastor Jack Graham gushed about Trump's supposed "moral clarity." And Franklin Graham praised God for Trump's "leadership."
There's nothing "moral" about provoking violence. The lives and well-being of everyday people -- especially Iranian civilians and American service members -- are now at risk because of Trump's reckless action.
As followers of the Prince of Peace, we need to counter the religious right and make it clear that tens of thousands of social-justice Christians oppose the MAGA regime's war on Iran.
