Tell Liberty trusteesNo $10.5 million severance package for Falwell

Posted: Aug. 27, 2020

Jerry Falwell Jr. was finally forced to resign this week as president of Liberty University, the largest Christian school in the country -- but he's getting an appalling and undeserved $10.5 million severance package, money that could otherwise benefit students.

Falwell ridiculously told The Washington Post that he's entitled to the money "because he is departing from the university without being formally accused of or admitting to wrongdoing." Make no mistake: The list of credible accusations against Falwell is nearly endless.

Though Falwell's hypocritical sex scandals were the straw that broke the camel's back, his unrepentant wrongdoing goes back years: Spreading deadly COVID-19 misinformation on Fox News; distorting the Gospel to endorse Donald Trump's hatred; bullying women, Muslims, people of color, and students' parents online and on campus; illegally using non-profit finances for personal gain; and more.

Christians are sick of seeing Falwell distort and misrepresent our faith. Let's send Liberty's trustees 10,000 signatures to ensure that he isn't rewarded for his long record of arrogance, bigotry, and hypocrisy.
