No soap or toothbrushes. Inadequate nutrition. Sleep deprivation every night. This treatment of children is evil -- so why has a historically Christian charity agreed to run Trump's newest immigrant detention camp?
BCFS, formerly called Baptist Child & Family Services, was an official "ministry partner" of the Baptist General Convention of Texas as recently as 2016. Now BCFS is making national news for agreeing to open the administration's next camp, which will create space to separate even more families.
The Bible clearly calls us to welcome the stranger and care for children. This means that Christians have no business running Donald Trump's cruel detention camps. Outrage against BCFS is building, and a message from thousands of everyday Christians like us could help remind the charity that following Jesus doesn’t mean helping tear children away from their families.
