When ICE agents brutally detained two Iranian Christians right outside their home last month, their pastor, Ara Torosian, came to their aid. He pleaded that they were here legally -- seeking asylum from religious persecution. It did not matter. Trump's ICE took them away anyways.
Two days earlier, two other congregation members had expressed concern about their upcoming asylum appointment at North LA's Federal Building to Pastor Torosian. He advised them to follow the rules and go to the appointment. They did the right thing. It did not matter. ICE immediately detained them when they arrived.
It's clear that asking nicely and assuming the best will not be enough to prevent ICE from abducting our immigrant neighbors. It is time to find new, creative ways to love and support others by asserting our rights and helping defend our communities from Trump's ICE agents.
Stopping the inhumane actions of ICE will take all of us working together. Pledge to be a part of our Faithful Resistance to ICE -- and learn what you can do to stand in solidarity with immigrants in your congregation or community now!
