Tell Chicago archbishopFire priest for rainbow flag burning

Posted: Sept. 21, 2018

A Chicago priest just led his Catholic parish in burning a rainbow flag that once hung over the parish altar to welcome LGBTQ worshippers. Father Paul Kalchik derided the rainbow flag as “a piece of propaganda” that was “made to celebrate all things gay.”

The archbishop of Chicago, Cardinal Blase Cupich, told Kalchik to cancel his planned flag burning. But in an act of defiance and intolerance, he did it anyway, arguing that homosexuality is to blame for clergy sex-abuse.

Kalchik’s actions are sparking local protests and national headlines. Cardinal Cupich must follow through and suspend him, showing that this sort of bigotry and scapegoating will not be tolerated.
