Tell Missouri bishopCondemn John Danforth’s defense of Kavanaugh

Posted: Sept. 30, 2018

Three decades ago, Episcopal priest and then-U.S. Senator John Danforth defended Clarence Thomas. Now Danforth is coming to Brett Kavanaugh’s defense, saying the Supreme Court nominee’s reputation is “being trashed” and that he “felt the same way about Clarence.”

But this time Episcopal clergywomen are fighting back, writing in an open letter to the New York Times: “No one, not least a priest of the church, should publicly shame, blame or question the motives of women who step forward to report instances of sexual abuse.”

The Episcopal Bishop of Missouri, where Danforth lives and is canonically resident, has a responsibility to respond and publicly support survivors of sexual assault.
