Tell Equal Employment Opportunity CommissionInvestigate Hobby Lobby's firing of pregnant employee

Posted: July 31, 2014

32-year-old Felicia Allen was a cashier at a Mississippi Hobby Lobby store. Four months pregnant, she asked for unpaid leave to care for her child. Instead, Hobby Lobby fired her.

Hobby Lobby's owners don't hesitate to invoke Christianity to avoid covering birth control, but what teaching of Jesus was the company following when it refused Felicia time to care for her newborn? Or when it later refused to re-hire her, and even lied to the unemployment agency to prevent her from getting benefits?

Pregnancy discrimination is illegal -- and if Christians lead the charge in demanding an investigation, it will help show that Hobby Lobby's religious posturing is nothing more than cover for its own extremist agenda.
