Tell Texas GovernorListen to Pope Francis, Stop Executions

Posted: Aug. 3, 2018

Pope Francis just declared the death penalty is always wrong. Past popes have opposed the death penalty in most cases, but now Francis has made it official by changing the catechism and removing all ambiguity.

Texas is ground zero for the death penalty in the United States, having executed more people than any other state. Governor Greg Abbott is a Catholic who has previously claimed that “Catholic doctrine is not against the death penalty, and so there is no conflict there.”

But Pope Francis just made it clear: there is a conflict.

With a growing Catholic population in Texas and a governor who’s now openly contradicting church teaching, we have a rare opportunity to support the Pope Francis agenda in a deep-red state.
