Pope Francis made headlines last week when he told a gay man: "God made you like this. God loves you like this. The pope loves you like this and you should love yourself." So why are six U.S. Catholic bishops about to appear at a conference promoting twelve steps for "recovering" from "same-sex attraction"?
For decades, Courage International contributed to high rates of suicide by telling young gay Catholics they could change their sexual orientation through "reparative therapy."
At the organization's annual conference this summer, Philadelphia Archbishop Charles Chaput and others will honor Courage International's founder even as its website continues to promote books and articles arguing that sexual orientation can be changed.
