For the last several elections, the nation's Catholic bishops have adopted overheated language urging Catholic voters to focus on outlawing abortion, blocking gay marriage, and protecting "religious freedom."
But the bishops are meeting this week to discuss the 2016 election, and this time one of the highest-ranking bishops appointed by Pope Francis is making waves.
Chicago Archbishop Blase Cupich, whose city has been ravaged by gun violence, says the bishops need to take a cue from Pope Francis's condemnation of weapons trafficking and make gun control a key Catholic priority for 2016.
This week's meeting could be a pivotal moment for the Catholic church in the United States, so it's time to show how many Christians are praying that the bishops will use their influence to take a stand.
