Under a new policy in Madison, Wisconsin, priests won't be able to baptize the children of same-sex couples without special permission from the bishop's office.
Facing a backlash, Bishop Robert Morlino's spokesperson is now insisting that he's not trying to deny baptisms to anyone -- but church experts are calling it an unprecedented attempt to single out gay parents for extra scrutiny.
For years, Pope Francis has scolded priests who refuse to baptize children born out of wedlock, saying they bear no responsibility for their parents' actions. In contrast, Morlino appears willing to hold children hostage to his own anti-gay agenda.
