Tell Methodist BishopDon't fight to defrock Frank Schaefer again

Posted: June 26, 2014

This week, a church panel voted to reinstate the ordination of Frank Schaefer, the United Methodist pastor who was put on trial and removed from ministry for presiding at the wedding of his gay son.

This decision could set a powerful precedent that helps end anti-gay discrimination in one of America's largest denominations.

But Schaefer could still be defrocked all over again if his bishop files an appeal -- costing him his livelihood and depriving the church of a pastor who's set a courageous example of what it means to follow Jesus.

Bishop Johnson has said she wants to avoid further church trials and conflict, but she also has a history of giving in to conservative advisors who want to enforce the church's anti-gay rules.

Let's show her that Christians across America are praying that she'll have the courage to keep Frank Schaefer in ministry.
