Tell Catholic BishopsStand up to Trump and his border wall

Posted: Jan. 5, 2019

More than two weeks into the government shutdown, President Trump is now citing the Vatican as a model for his “big, beautiful wall” and trying to bully Nancy Pelosi into building it by calling her “a good Catholic.”

The Vatican’s walls don’t surround the city and people can freely enter. But while Trump says on television that "the Vatican has the biggest wall of them all,” the nation’s Catholic bishops have fallen silent.

Since this shutdown fight began in December, there have been no public statements from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops about the wall or reopening the government. The bishops may claim to follow church teachings on justice for immigrants, but at this critical moment, they’re sitting on the sidelines.

The bishops know how to make their voice heard by politicians, and they need to hear from us that their silence on the shutdown is unacceptable.
