Tell Wisconsin bishopStop excluding women from holy foot washing

Posted: April 9, 2014

Last year on Holy Thursday, Pope Francis made history and headlines across the world by washing the feet of a young Muslim woman in a juvenile detention center. But this year, at least one American bishop continues to prohibit priests in his diocese from washing any women's feet.

A spokesman for Robert Morlino, Bishop of Madison, Wisconsin, confirmed to the local paper that he's disregarding Pope Francis' example -- even though some parishes in his diocese have chosen to skip foot washing rather than exclude women.

Bishop Morlino's sexist and exclusionary policy is undermining Pope Francis's efforts to set a new tone for the church. Let's show him that Christians across the country are appalled by his exclusion of women from this sacred part of Holy Week.
