Students at a Christian college in California are trying to organize an LGBTQ+ Pride club -- but they're running into serious opposition from the school administration.

A senior and Navy veteran at Fresno Pacific University (FPU), which is affiliated with the Mennonite Brethren Church, got approval from his student government to form the club as part of a project for his Christian Leadership class -- but then the administration stepped in, paused the club, and demanded a vote from the university Board of Trustees.

FPU's Trustees are meeting this Saturday, October 23, to decide the fate of the Pride club. We need to make sure they know this isn't just a local issue.

Dear Fresno Pacific University Board of Trustees,

We write to you as your siblings in Christ from across the country, deeply committed to upholding the God-given dignity of all people -- including our LGBTQ neighbors. We are dismayed that the FPU administration has intervened to potentially overrule the student government's decision to allow a campus LGBTQ+ Pride club.

We stand in solidarity with the students, faculty, and alumni who are bravely living into the Gospel's call to love all of our neighbors as Christ loved us. As the Valley's only accredited Christian university, FPU has an important role to play in the community by advancing a positive Christian witness. We believe that discriminating against LGBTQ students by not allowing this club's formation will send a hateful signal that undermines the loving name and welcoming good news of Jesus Christ.

We ask you to act in accordance with FPU's own stated values of "reconciliation and peacemaking" as well as "the promotion of social justice," and allow the formation of this important Christian student club.
