Faith leaders, called to listen to the voices and votes of the least of these, will speak out throughout November -- preaching on Sunday, November 1, to encourage values-based voting and to prepare our churches for what's to come after Election Day, then preaching in the weeks that follow to proclaim our values and protect the results.
Most Americans believe that we will have an officially certified winner of the presidential election within three days of Election Day. But this year, counting every vote will take extra time due to more absentee ballots, extra security measures, and the coronavirus. Clergy can help prepare their communities for this new reality.
Unfortunately, the president has made it clear that he will likely spend the extra time spreading disinformation, demanding mail-in ballots be thrown out, and potentially trying to stop prolonged counting.
The president's corrupt thirst for power-at-all-costs is strikingly similar to King Herod's. Clergy can use a prophetic voice to oppose any immoral assaults on democracy -- and to make sure that the voices of the vulnerable are counted.
