Tell McAllen city commissionLet Sister Norma and Catholic Charities stay

Posted: Feb. 21, 2019

When President Trump visited the border city of McAllen, Texas last month, Sister Norma Pimentel was hoping to tell him about how she offers food, medicine, and clothing to newly-arrived migrants awaiting the resolution of their asylum cases.

But Trump never gave her the chance to speak - and now McAllen’s city council has voted to evict the respite center run by Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley.

Angry neighbors flocked to a City Commission meeting, where they referred to migrants as “these people” and insinuated that they are somehow a danger to children. The City Commission caved, and now Sister Norma has fewer than 90 days to vacate the center - leaving migrants with nowhere else to go.
