Social justice requires democracy reform

From Donald Trump's attacks on the democratic process to the violence at the U.S. Capitol inspired by his lies, it is terrifyingly clear that our democracy is hanging on by a thread.

A functioning democracy reduces inequality, gives the most vulnerable a voice, and protects the God-given dignity of every voter. That makes it a critical tool for social justice -- which is why Trump and his allies in the religious right want to reduce voting rights, not increase them.

If we don't act now, things will only get worse. Right-wing lawmakers are using Trump's lies about the election results as an excuse to introduce bills in dozens of state legislatures that attack our civil rights and try to block voters of color.

The good news is the U.S. House is poised to pass H.R. 1 this week, the For the People Act. This bold, comprehensive bill will protect and strengthen the sacred right to vote, end the dominance of big money in politics, and end partisan gerrymandering.

Let's speak out for H.R. 1 today, and show Congress that the right-wing doesn't represent their Christian constituents on this vital moral issue.
