This week, Michael Sam, the first openly gay player in the history of the National Football League, was signed to the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad.
In response, a prominent conservative lobbyist says he's organized thousands of Christians to protest the Cowboys' season opener on Sunday -- and the media is eating up the story, once again portraying Christians as hateful and anti-gay.
We need to send a message that there are thousands of Christians who are appalled that our faith is so often invoked to justify bigotry -- and will stand alongside any team that makes a commitment to equality.
