For over a century, churches have partnered with Boy Scout troops to teach boys the values of service and citizenship. But until now, the Boy Scouts of America have set a profoundly unchristian example for boys by banning gay and lesbian families from participating in scouting.
But as the boy scouts consider dropping their anti-gay policy, the religious right has leapt into action, accusing the Boy Scouts of America of promoting pedophilia and flooding their offices with angry phone calls.
It's up to us to show the Boy Scouts of America that the religious right doesn't speak for the millions of everyday American Christians who have come to love and accept our gay and lesbian neighbors.
